The following course of “Academic Writing’’ is addressed to college entry-level students that wish to hone their skills or to get acquainted with academic writing, college levels essays and it’s writing process.
A main focus on analytical essays, critical reading and efficient writing will be provided during the course. The class will review different writing methods and analyze essay approaches of different kinds with which the student will get familiar. The students will learn about how to take notes and collect information, using a clear organization and write with a concise and effective languages to organize a text properly. Finally, he will be provided with tools to edit academic level essays.
Many parallels will be done with the preparation for the AP English Literature and Composition Exam. Tools that can use for this purpose will be highlighted during the class.

- The students will be expected by the end of this course to outline and write academic level essays by following the main guidelines of academic writing. The first part will tackle pre-writing: writing, and revising skills. The class will give them an opportunity to identify and organize relevant information, to formulate a writing topic and structure, to identify different writing styles, and to develop an engaging writing style through different techniques.
- Each class will have half an hour set aside to short writing activities in class, giving them an opportunity to apply what they have learned.
- In addition, this class will enable the student to acquire critical reading and essay redaction skills for the purpose of the AP English Literature and Composition Exam.
